Biobanks are bodies that store and provide biological samples (DNA, tumour tissues, neurological tissues, etc.) to scientific researchers. The have the necessary means to guarantee the quality of all sample processing procedures whilst always protecting the identity of their donors.
Furthermore, the Biobank only provides samples for those projects that have been approved by its ethical and scientific committees. This ensures that all samples are used for a good cause, thereby complying with all ethical and legal obligations.
The Basque Biobank is responsible for collecting all samples for research purposes provided by the Department of Health, Osakidetza and Onkologikoa. It is organised as a network of hospitals, including:
